In order to achieve clean and well lit subjects without losing the atmosphere of the backgrounds, this photo shoot relied heavily on a lighting technique called rear curtain sync where the sensor is exposed for a long time, with a quick flash at the end. This preserves the sharpness of the subject and lets the background fade into both a smooth bokeh and a natural motion blur, with subtle trails behind moving subjects.
